Florida Visitation Rights Policy
Under the direction of the General Manager, Leisure Care managed communities will comply with applicable laws regarding the rights of residents, including the visitation provisions identified in this policy.
General Visitation
The community’s main lobby doors are unlocked during traditional “business hours” and are locked in the evening. The community does not restrict visitation hours, and staff are available to let guests into the community after the main lobby doors are locked.
Screening
Guests and visitors to the community are asked to check in and out at the front desk utilizing either an electronic platform or paper logs to enable the community to maintain a reasonable awareness of visitors to the community without imposing requirements that may diminish a resident’s rights, privacy, or preferences.
In the event of a public health emergency or similar circumstances that warrant heightened oversight, the community may require additional screening and monitoring of individuals and may restrict entry in accordance with company standards and jurisdictional governances.
Guaranteed Visitation
The community will permit in-person visitation in all the following circumstances, unless the resident objects:
- In end-of-life situations.
- If a resident who was living with family before moving into the community is struggling with the change in environment and lack of in-person family support.
- If a resident is making one or more major medical decisions.
- If a resident is experiencing emotional distress or grieving the loss of a friend or family member who recently died.
- If a resident needs cueing or encouragement to eat or drink, which was previously provided by a family member or caregiver.
- If a resident who used to talk and interact with others is seldom speaking.
The community will also permit visitation by designated “essential caregivers” as defined in F.S. 408.23(2)(b).
Visitation Limitations
The Resident Agreement identifies visitation limitations related to overnight guests, children under the age of twelve (12), and shared suite considerations related to privacy. Under “normal” conditions, there are not specific limitations on the number of guests, other than the designated room capacity limitations established for the community.
Infection Control and Education
Due to the vulnerable population of the community, guests and visitors are encouraged to follow general infection control practices, including but not limited to recommended immunizations/vaccinations, hand hygiene, and not visiting the community if they are ill.
Should there be a need to elevate infection control measures, the community will communicate the recommendations and/or public health requirements via designated platforms and may provide additional personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to single-use gloves and face coverings.
Complaints
Individuals may submit complaints regarding an assisted living facility’s visitation policies and practices online at HCF Complaint Form | AHCA – Health Care Facility Complaint Form, or via phone to 1-888-419-3456.
