Improving balance and mobility is a crucial part of aging well. At Bella Villaggio Senior Living, balance is one of five core elements of our PrimeFit Wellness program, all designed to help our residents live better than ever.

When it comes to senior health and wellness, fall prevention is essential. Each year, more than 800,000 people in the United States require hospitalization from a fall, largely attributed to declining strength, balance, and mobility from inactivity. The good news is that falling does not have to be a normal part of aging.

These tips can help you stay on your feet through retirement:

  • Review all your medicines with your doctor and discuss any that make you feel sleepy or dizzy.
  • Have your vision checked annually and update prescriptions as needed.
  • Be sure you have proper footwear.
  • Keep floors clutter-free.
  • Use grip bars in the bathroom.
  • Be active every day!
  • Incorporate strength training into your fitness routine.
  • Hire a personal trainer to help you retain and build muscle.

PrimeFit Wellness at Bella Villaggio is an innovative seniors wellness program designed to give seniors the strength and confidence in their movements and prevent falls. Our independent living, assisted living, and memory care residents all enjoy the benefits of our PrimeFit Wellness program. Our PrimeFit trainer offers personal training and group fitness classes specifically designed to meet the needs of seniors. We even offer fitness classes that are focused on balance and movement. We offer modifications to our exercises, often using a chair or wall for support while building strength. Residents also participate in resistance training with a resistance band, greatly improving muscle strength, balance, coordination, flexibility, and range of motion.

At Bella Villaggio, we encourage our residents to exercise every day. Each February, we participate in Leisure Care’s annual February Fitness Frenzy, where residents and staff raise money for a local charity through pledges for active minutes. It’s just one way we stay active and healthy!
