Meet one of our remarkable residents, World War II Veteran Leonard Carson.
World War II Veteran Recognized by Liberty Warriors
Treeo Orem Resident Leonard Carson, 98, fought at the Battle of the Bulge with General George Patton. He was recently recognized by Liberty Warriors for his service.
Liberty Warriors honors the service of veterans by presenting them with an American flag flown on a combat mission. Most of the flags fly on combat missions on attack helicopters and are brought back to the U.S. and then presented to veterans. The organization travels around the country and presents these flags as a way to show respect and honor on behalf of a grateful nation.
Gene Franco is a retired service member who never truly retired. Deployed 22 times, Franco flies the flags on his missions and brings them back. He says, “Besides peace for myself, I can actually see the honor that they have for the flag, the sacrifices they made in their lives.”
Carson, who received a flag from Liberty Warriors, says being remembered, “It means about everything. At 98 years old, it means a lot.” Carson’s flag was flown on an Apache Attack Helicopter over Kandahar, Afghanistan.
