Van Mall Book Project

Van Mall Book Project

Alissa Sauer

Van Mall residents have a story to tell! We are proud to announce that our residents have put together a book sharing their life experiences with the world. Learn more about the Van Mall Book Project and how moving to Van Mall empowers and encourages seniors.

When Dr. Lorraine Marais started a simple writing and reflecting class at Van Mall, she never dreamed of what it would become. As residents met monthly to share stories from their youth and reflect on the feelings that came from those memories, it became clear that Van Mall residents have an abundance of wisdom and experience to share with the world.

The group decided to write a book, meeting weekly to share rough drafts, ideas, and photos. As the project evolved, the group grew and even the staff was involved in the process. The book became a three-part series with over 60 participants collaborating to make one incredible story.

“It has been an incredible process developing the book. The residents and staff who contributed to the book really shared their hearts. This has been a very rewarding experience.” Destiny, Van Mall Program Supervisor

Partnering with local graphic designer Anna Roe and wedding photographer Meghan Hoff, the Van Mall Book Project became a reality, meeting their goal of having a book in hand before Christmas.

“The goal was to have a book in hand before Christmas, for residents to share with their families and friends.” – Lorraine, Van Mall resident

Every resident and staff member will receive one free copy of the book. Purchase your own copy of Van Mall’s Book Project entitled, “Moments in Time: Life Reflections by Van Mall Retirement Community” at Van Mall! The book will be available for purchase after December 15, 2019. Call or stop by today to get your copy and meet the authors!
