February marks Black History Month. At Treeo Raleigh independent living, we celebrate black history as an important part of American history, honoring our residents’ diversity year-round. Learn more about our efforts to honor our community’s diversity.

Black History Experience Panel at Treeo Raleigh

To celebrate Black History Month and to have productive conversations in our community, Treeo Raleigh residents organized a resident panel to share their stories and experiences of being black in America. The theme of the panel discussion was, “Black History is American History.”

Panelists shared their personal experiences serving in the military, attending grade school and historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs), and church. A compelling slideshow entitled “The Black History Experience” was included, which mirrored the topics discussed by the panelists. Other residents and staff participated by listening and asking questions of the panelists.

Throughout the month, Treeo Raleigh showed documentaries and films featuring black stories and hosted documentary discussions.
