Black History Experience Panel at Treeo Raleigh
To celebrate Black History Month and to have productive conversations in our community, Treeo Raleigh residents organized a resident panel to share their stories and experiences of being black in America. The theme of the panel discussion was, “Black History is American History.”
Panelists shared their personal experiences serving in the military, attending grade school and historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs), and church. A compelling slideshow entitled “The Black History Experience” was included, which mirrored the topics discussed by the panelists. Other residents and staff participated by listening and asking questions of the panelists.
Residents enjoyed the event saying,
“We are more alike than different!” – Tony H., resident
“Understanding and sharing our culture matters!” – Regenia M., resident
Throughout the month, Treeo Raleigh showed documentaries and films featuring black stories and hosted documentary discussions.
At Treeo Raleigh, we strive to build relationships between residents and to encourage residents to lead community events they are passionate about. Having open and honest conversations about tough subjects encourages engagement and meaningful interactions that enhance life in our community.
