It’s no secret that gardening has major benefits for senior health and wellness. From stress relief to increased mobility, gardening is a great way for seniors to get out and enjoy the great outdoors. That’s why Markham House has added a Garden Club for residents who enjoy being outside and connected to nature. Learn more about the new Garden Club at Markham House.
Bringing the Benefits of Gardening to Markham House
Gardening has a number of benefits for seniors including reducing stress and improving mental and physical health. With the warmer weather upon us, we have added a Garden Club to our dynamic activity calendar so residents can reap the benefits of gardening while enjoying the great outdoors together.
Our garden includes flowers and vegetables and is tended to every day by our residents. Managed by our very own Markham House residents, the garden is watered, checked for pests, weeded, and trimmed. We also pick ripe fruit and vegetables and deliver them to our kitchen staff for fresh salads and soups.
Residents enjoy working in the garden saying,
“Nothing is more peaceful than working in the garden.”
“My garden is like my baby. I love being out!”
Our time in the garden is well spent, giving residents a chance to enjoy fresh air, absorb vitamin D, socialize with friends, be physically active, and be connected to nature.
We would love for you to join us! Grab your gardening tools and come over to Markham House!
